(T7NITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Tm abu, Monday. At a Committee meeting of the Agricultural and Pastoral Association on Saturday, the President (Mr D. McLaren) said that the result of a canvas of the district for a subscription to wipe off the Bank overdraft was .very satisfactory, over £400 being promised. It was decided,- as the time was<rather short to try and arrange for a show on the present ground, and to make a move to the Racecourse next year. Before adjourning it was agreed to meet on the first Saturday of July to make definite arrangements for the October show. GhuistcfturcHj Monday. Mr C. C. Bowen this morning received a cable message from the East and West Coast Railway delegates m London, to the effect that prospects are hopeful, and they will probably be able to send a definite answer m about a week. Dttnedin, Monday, The Customs duties on tea, sugar, tobacco, kerosene, and rice, this week, amounted to over £20,000. The Committee of the Educational Institute having considered the standards, consider that the work should extend over seven years. . Attgklanb, Monday. _ Dutiable goods are being cleared from bond very rapidly. This week the duties collected amount to 1 £11,523. The articles, cleared include salmon, candles, tea, and sugar.
