Ho was discovered quite dead, hanging te a tree at the rear of the Mount Soiners Hotel. Chrjstchwrch, Saturday. A Commission, appointed by the North Canterbury Board of Bducation, have conducted an enquiry into certain charges brought by the Bangiora School Committee against Mr Goodeve, head master of the school. Drunkenness and general neglect of bis work are alleged against the master. Voluminous evidence, of a contradictory nature was taken, the enquiry concluding at 10.50 p.m. yesterday. To-day the Commissioners sat and drew up a report, which will be submitted to the Board of Edu- < cation at its next meeting. Timabu, Satuvday. The Supreme Court was occupied all day yesterday with the civil case New Zealand Grain Agency Company v. Alexander Proctor, a claim for i-87 for loss on wheat shipped Home on defendant's account. Judgment was given for £85 16s. Dunedin, Saturday. Dunne the past three days over £12,000 has been: paid m duties, princi- i pally on sugar and tea. j • AndKLAWD, Saturday. A. The number of Natives present was comparatively small. : A parade of the naval companies forming the Auckland Naval Brigades was hold to-night. It was the largest parade of N*vals ever held m Auckland. Close on three hundred were inspected by Maj.jor Shepherd. At the City South Licensing meeting , (adjourned) to-day, renewals of licenses were refused to the Criterion and Wellington Hotels. The Bench announced that they would next year refuse a renewal of the Bob Boy Hotel. James Eganhas been arrested on a charge of threatening to shoot Mr Bethell, at Kei-ikeri sawmill, Onehunga. The prisoner presented two loaded revolvers at Bethell's head, because the latter had called him names a year ago. Mr Burton, photographer, of Dunedin, | who accompanied Mr Rochfort and party from "Wanganui to Waikato, has come right through the heart of the King Country. He was permitted by the Na- ! tiyes to photograph the scenery anywhere without molestation or interference. The City Council have accepted a tender of >'4975 for the construction of fresh water baths.
