Dairy Factories.
— » ■ The Alexandra correspondent of; thfe' Auckland Herald writes : — Some of thc> milk suppliers to the Paterangi Factor/ are grumbling at the length of tfaat. they are kept out of their return*. 'Xfrti'' " year they received tor their milk SJd pitr gallon, and hod eleren months towait tat that. The annual report of the company stated that they were to get somftofoft • more, but they never got a mtfuuMt. This year, as «ne of them informed im«, they commenced taking their milk to the factory on the 22nd October, and had not received a penny up to the 21st lust. The amount received lor oheeie alreadysold had qjone to pay the manager's ex> penses, who receives £280 per annum, with the sole privilege of doing all th* carting of coal and cheese at 8s per ioOj and with free house, and a pennj per lbs profit on all the cheese he can sell n* tail — a large salary for the work of only a portion of the year. In addition to this he got £15 from an apprentice, and . the use of his labour — the only other labour besides his own that he provided being that of a boy, whom he discharged at the end of the cheese-making season* My informant says can it be wondered at that the factory is not the success |ft ; should be (there are only eleven milk • suppliers), and argues that if the factory * paid B£d per gallon, as the Waikato Fao* ' tory does, it would get plenty of mrty t ■■ '-■ and then the working expenses pro rate > would be lighter. It is also stated that there are one or two of the directors who lend money, or rather advance 24 per gallon, on the milk at 10 per oent* ; which has not a tendency to hasten tho disposal of the cheese andtha sqtarimt ot accounts. .. .;
