Tn some reminiscences of General Gor- ""* don is narrated an incident which shows the General's care for outcast boys. Gordon's house was as full of poor boys as it could hold, when another ragamuffin applied for admittance.. He was put up accordingly in 'an empty atalL-in the stable, and at G o'clock sharp nei't morning " the Colonel " made -.his appearance, .carrying- a lump of soap, 'a bath towl, a brush, and a sponge. . lie called the little *-„,» vagabond out intothe yard," and "having *** poured a pail of hot~ "water into the trough, he- then and there stripped ' liis yoijng- friend- and 'gave him a ; thoroWh cleansing from head to foot.
