The Otago Itoi/;/ Times says : — We must do Mr Bai.lance the erodit to say that there seems to us to be very i; ttle foundation for the attacks which are so persistently mailo upon ids administration. The reason of these probably is that there is no political subject upon which the great majority of the public are necessarily so profoundly ignorant as Native affairs. Mr Ballanceis evidently trying his best, and there are no sufficient results yet to judge of the wisdom of the method ; whilst m dealing with this particular West Coast question he has all the best of his critics.
