A fire oouurred yesterday morning m i Manchester street South, by which R«dfera's printing office waß gutted, and the Railway Hotel damaged. The printing office was uninsured. The hotel premises were insured for £150, and the furniture for £500 m the Liverpool' London, and Globe office. The damage is. estimated at ,£2OO to the building and £100 to the furniture. The cause of the fire is. supposed to be a defect m the printing office chimney. "Westpobt, Saturday. Messrs Price and Clarke, of Hbkitika, have signed a contract with the Webtport Harbour. Board for the construction of the Cape Foulwind Railway, seven miles. The price is £8936. There were three other tenders. The railway will be used to convey stone for harbor works. : ■.'.".•"-. No blame is attached to anyone, and it is supposedto have been caused by a small unnoticed crevice m the ground above. The. son was 15 years of age. The father leaves a wife and three children.
