The Nightingale Casualty.
SUSPICIOUS CIRCUMSTANCES I CROPPING UP. SUSPECTED FOUL PLAY. (UNITED PKEBS ASSOCIATION.) Attckland. Tneaday. In answer to inquiries made by cable Mr D. Gouk sent instructions to Svdnoy by wire this morning directing his agents to sell his share m the sphooner Nigh tin gale for what it would realise. The Sydney police are actively engaged m investigating matters connected with' the disappearance of the captain and part of the crew, but up till this morning no arrests have been made. One of the seamen who took the water-lodged vessel into port is Averillo, a notable character who has been frequently m gaol for larceny, assault, Ac. One of his most re cent freaks was an attempt to stab the master of a vessel, when he was settled pro tern, with a belaying-pin. It is re markable, also, that this same fellow took the schooner Louie into Noumea after Captain Pellinger had been lost overboard. While here he was under the notice of the police constantly.
