In the House of Commons to-day the Marquis of Harrington, Secretary of State for the War Department in reply to a question stated, regarding operations in Soudan, that the Government had decided to make Wady Haifa the advanced frontier, and withdraw the troops to that point. On the rising of the Nile the expedition to Khartoum will be abandoned and an endeavor will be made to establish the administration at Dongola of the intended complete railway system along the Nile, but the proposed line from Suakim to Berber will be relinquished. In conclusion Lord Hartington stated that England would retain possession of Suakim until arrangements conld bo concluded for the occupation of that port by a civilised power.
