Subsequently, he was a trustee m bankruptcy, and curator of iutestate estates. The Board of Education lms resolved to give dchool Inspector Peacock six months' salary m Hou of notice. The second election for the Takapuna Licensing Committee resulted m Good Templarcandidates being again returned. There was iimuqnse excitement, and it was the hardest temperance contest which has yet taken place m Auckland. GttEYiiOUTF, Monday. There was very heavy wind and ram this morning. About midnight, while working at the coal trucks on the wharf, oue of the squad of men fell off the wharf and was drowned. His mates jgappled for the body afterwards and found it. From a mark on the top of the deceased's head, it is assumed he struck on a pile before he touched the water. Deceased's name was Carl Wennick, and he was between 50 and 60 years of age. At the inquest held on the body of James Carl Weiiuick, a verdict of accidental death while engaged m bin ordinary calling w«8 returned. The jury attached a rider, condemning the inadequate way m which tbe wharf is lighted, and the danger to men loading vessels on dark nights. Friday ni*ht, when tho accident happened, was dark and tempestuous. Port Chalmers, Monday. The weather . boing fair to-day, th« passengers per Arawa with their luggage, . were taken to Qunrantine Island. After tlieir effects have been fumigated, they will be admitted to pratique.
