The whole of the applications for space m the homo indnstry and fine arts department of the New Zealand Exhibition have been received. About 800 persons have applied for space m the former, while 206 have made application m the latter. Instructions have been received from some of the English legatees under the will of the late Mr James May to institute proceedings against Mrs Rhodes for recovery of the bank shares transferred to her by Waring Taylor, m settlement of an amount appropriated by him from Ehode's estate while acting as trustee. j . The value of the shares so transferred is : £12,000. The action will come before ! the Supreme Court shortly. I Greymouth, Sunday. About seven o'clock on Saturday evening a man named Stephen Walsh, a storekeeper, of Hatters' Terrace, Nelson Creek, was drowned while trying to ford the Nelson Creek on horseback. The creek was flooded at the time. He was drowned almost m sight of his. own home, and leaves a widow and one child. . The Grey River was m very high flood 6n Saturday evening, it haying risen very rapidly. All the lower portion of the town is under water. Port Chalmers. Sunday. The weather being fair to-day the passengers per Avawa, with their luggage, wore taken to the quarantine island. Aftor their effects have been fumigated, they will be admitted to pratique. Thames, Sunday. ■ A melancholy boating accident occurred at the entrance to the Thames River yesterday. It appears that about noon lour men started from Tararu for Piako m an open boat during a severe northwest gale. The boat was not seen to capsize, but was found bottom upwards m tho mud m the channel this morning, but no sign of the occupants, and no hope is entertained for their survival. The threo elder men were married, and leave families unprovided for.
