The Cruise o f the Coptic.
Oar San Francisco mail news throws, we think, some light on the prokiblfl destination of the s.s. Coptic from Wellington with coal. The telegram* state that the Chinese squadron of the Imperial Navy has beetj ordered to rendezvous at Point Hamilton; one of the • orean Archipelago, m the- Yellow Sea. This inland is not specially marked on aiiy v atlas xim have l>eon able to consult, ' but the archipelago contains so mauy J small unnamed islands that this is y not ynrprizingr Ifc will be remempere«l that it was recently stated m our cable news that Russia hail demanded from Ensrland the abandonment of Point Hamilton. Such a -lemand is a very natural one, as the position commands the Corean Strait and the Sea of Japan, m which are several Russian ports, the chief (if : which is Vladivostock. It also commands really the approaches to the Sea of Okhotsk, the Eussian arsenals on the Amour River, and her naval stations m Kains -hataka. No doubt England intends to establish a coaling station at Point Hamilton, and. probably the Coptic has gone to discharge her cargo there. — Post,
