(TO THE EDITOR r»F T3E STANDARD.)
Sir.— Allow mejthrough your valuable paper to draw attention to the disgiaceful state iv which the bridges are m between Bunnythorpe and Messrs Baily's mill. They'are not safe to travel over ; m many places the slabs that form the deckiug are rotten, and far enough apart to alow a horse's foot to pas througi-. Not long ago coming from Feilding after dark my horse stepped through i» bridge near Troujem, throwing mo violently to the ground, ]Jand with difficulty pxtiicating itself. The. only wonder is that it did not brcuk its leg, and this on a declared main road, if I am not mistaken. It is not long since a great deal of talk took place, and propositions were made by the Board to levy a special rato to build a bridge over the Oroua river. I think that it would be of more profit to the ratepayeis if the Road Board looked after the road and made it passable, without eudangeriug th<i life of man and horse, before they seek to build brid ges to which the majority of the settlers would have no access. — I am &c.,— A Ratepayer, Bunnythorpe, May 6th, 1885.
