A Disgraceful Peace.
[Post.] The news from England shows that a considerable party there, and the Press generally, hold the same views regarding Mr Gladstone's concessions to Russia, which we have expressed, to the effect that they involve national humiliation and disgrace. Lord .Randolph Churchill has given very emphatic expression to this feeling, and even the Liberal party seems to view the action of its leaders with distrust. The whole subject is to be brought under the direct ivviuw of Parliament, and we should noc be at all surprised to find the force of public opinion sufficiently strong to induce a majority of the House of Commons lo express itn stroujr condemnation of the conditions on which war has been for a time avoided. The reported resignation of Lord Diifferin, if it is correct, will tend greatly to bring about «uch a result, implying, as it must do, emphatic condemnation of the action of the Government by the person best qualified to estimate the probable • results. The fall m stocks is significant.
