The following extract Irom a letter just received by Mr Thomas Peachy of Wanganui, from his son Georgo, vrho is serving: with the Imperial army at the Cape, will be of interest to his old friends and school-fallow* here* Mr George Peachy 'being a native of Wanganui. Some four years ago he went to England and joined the 36th Company of Marines going afterwjirds to Egypt, and being wounded m the battle of Tel-el-KeMr Mr Peachy says : — We bad our first engagement at Ramlob, the next at Tel-eKUaota, at Mepish, at Maghanui and at Kassouir. From thence we Imd a forced inarch through nothing but sand for 34 miles, which we did m five hours. That is where we got our jfnedals. As you see by my photo it hfU Tel-el-Kebir marked across it. Thjs other medals I got for bravery «nd endurance. lam pleased to be able to tell you that it was m that terrible battle I got my promotion, aW it was there I was also wounded. k spent bullet Htrnnk me m the thigh, /and had it come its full force I should / undoubtedly have been killed. I / was taken front the battle-field where / many of our bra vi' fellows lost their i lives. We (the wounded) were then I taken to the hospital, after which our / ' regiment left for Home. I was carefully nursed at the hospital, nnd and am now recovered. That Egypttian campaign nearly killed me ; we had to march to so many pla«jes over a heavy sandy desert wit hont sufficient water and veiy little food. When T recovered from my wounds sufficiently I left immediately tojoin my lvgiment. We are now quartered- at Simmond's Bny, Cape Colony.
