The Timaru correspondent of tho Otago Witness writes: — "The difficulties that surround the inception of Colonial industries are proverbial. The directors and shareholders of the Timuka Linseed Oil, Take, and Fibre Company are to be congratulated upon the spirit which they display m grappling with the troubles incidental to the establishment of the important industries that have been inaugurated by them. To start an industry requires no extraordinary powers, but to overcome all obstacles, and to establish that industry on a sound and lasting basis, energy and determination, tempered with prudence, are the qualities that must be possessed by thoseiwho have the control and direction of affairs. The preparation of the Native flax fibre did not prove a success, but the directors of the Linseed Company have not lost heart, having ordered a spinning plant from Home for the production of binding and other twines. The machinery is now on its way from Home. The Company's overdraft at the bank is with .£SOO of unpaid calls. The shareholders have guaranteed the directors from personal loss, all having agreed to risk the amount of their shares. It is to be hoped for the benefit of the district at large, that the efforts of the Linseed Company will be crowned with the success which their enterprise so richly merits-"
