Disastrous Collision m Manukau Harbour.

THE HERALD AND GAIRLOCH COLLIDED. DAMAGE £1000. (UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Auckland, May 3. A collision occurred at two o'clock on Sunday morning m the Mauukuu Harbour. The Herald left for Greymouth at 10 o'clock on Saturday night, proceeding down the Harbour. When four miles down she was met by the Goirlocb, from 1 Wuitara. Captain Me Arthur could not see the Herald bearing down on his vessel, and reversed the engines, but too late, as the Herald came stem on into the Gairloch's* starboard bow with a drcddful crash, denting and cracking her plates nearly to the water's edge, raising the forecastle head, and .straining tbe vessel, which is making, a good deal of waier now. After getting clear, the Herald moved on down the harbour, and the Gairloch pidceeded to Onehunga wharf. The damage is estimated at £1000.
