Waste Lands Board.

The usual fortnightly meeting of the Wellington Waste Lands Board was held on Thursday. Present — Messrs. Marchant (Commissioner, m the chair), Bunny, Fitzlierbert,M'Car.Ue, and Mason. The schedule of land sold since last meeting showed that 1088 acres have been disposed of for £544. A letter was read from the Secretary to the Wanganui Harbour Board asking the Board to reconsider their decisiou as to the sale of the balance of the Harbour Board endowraeut block. The Chairman reported that he had received a memo from the Surveyor-General, stating that the Harbour Board had been informed that if they would put roads m good order m the block they propose to offer for sale, previous to sale, the Government would not press for the balance due on account of scrvey of the block at present. The Board decided that if the Harbour Board will consent to allow the thirds of all the deferred payment instalments to go to the local bodies for the purpose of making roads m the block, the board would consent to the sale. Mr. Alfred Rogers, selector, Kairanga, asked to be allowed to pay off the capitalised value of the purchase money on his sectiou. The Chairmau reported that all the conditions bad been fulfilled, and it was decided to grant the request. The (Juder Secretary for Crown Lands wrote stating that m future no totara lands are to be sold, as it is proposed to reserve such lands m connection with a system of forest conservancy. The Ranger forwarded a report, on* the applications of Messers. E. J. Armstiong and J. S. Harrison, who asked to be allowed to take drift totara from Pohangina River bed, and also to cut. timber for sleepers from Crown lands on the banks .'of the rlyer. The Board decided to inform the applicants that no license to cut drift timber, .fnr the reasons stated by the ranger, can be granted ; and as regards the totara trees, that no license will be granted, m accordance with the request of the Go verm en t.
