The Racing Club.

(TO THE EDITOR OF THE STANDARD.) Sir, — I quite agree with your article m Monday's paper condemning the action of the Manawatu Racing Club m holding its meeting on Easter Monday m opposition to Feilding, which had the recognised right to that day for years past. In fact, it seems that the affairs of the Club have not been conducted of late with that circumspection that is conduc tive to success. The public have not forgotten the manner m which Mr T. R. Walton was dismissed from office as secretary, which did not by any means reflect creditably on those . who pulled the strings on that occasion, but which obtained for Mr Walton a considerable amount of sympathy, fsoin the fact that the public believod, and still believe, that 'he had been harshly dealt with, and that his dismissal.however advisable and expedient it may have been considered, was not carried out m a straight--1 forward manner. I have heard many very strong opinions expressed on the action of the Committee m that matter, and the feeling caused indirectly attaches itself to the Club, and remains.. there. Then a spirit of indignation was again aroused when it sought to damage the Feilding snnual race meeting, and lovers of fair play m turf matters were not slow to denounce the attempt as deserving of censure, and likely to damage the prestige of the Club. The financial result is now known, and I fear the Club will not have much sympathy m its difficulties. However, if it gains wisdom by its experience, and acts differently m iature, it will be the gamer m the long run. — I am, &c, Argus.
