Manawatu County Council.

A special meeting was held on Wednesday last, for the confirmation of the resolutions m regard to the annual rate, and the customary formal resolutions were carried. Afterwards, an ordiuary meeting ot the Council was held, the Councillors present being— Messrs Thynne, Davies, Stewart, Gibson, and M'Kenzie. It was re-olved to request the Rangilikel Council not to close the road tunning past the racecourse at Bulls on the grounds that the closing of the road would be injurious to residents of this county. The engineer was instructed to continue the works on CarnarvonAwahuri road to the amount of £115 on the Carnarvon end, and £154 on the Awahuri end— these amounts to include present liabilities. Resolved— That the slaughter license JSo. 3, of HP. Meyers, Campbell town, be transferred to E. Garrett. Several alterations m the rate roll were ordered to be made. A long letter was read from Mr Pemberton. He complained of the treatment be had received over his tramway contract, stating he had gustained a los* of JS2S, and requesting the Council to make him some re« compense. Nothing was done m the matter. . Proposed by the Chairman, seconded by Cr Gibson That the Chairman be authorised to borrow from the Government by way of loan or m anticipation i-f subsidy, or grant, the sun i of £2000 or £5000, and that his upHcation shall lie sufficient authority. Kesolved -That the tender.* of J. Khby for contracts on the Sanson tramway, being Nos- 6, £133, for No. 7 contract £193, and for No. 8 contract .£239 be accepted.
