COLONIAL DEFENCES.

(Per s.s. Manupouri at the Bluff.) (united press association.) Melbourne, April 14. The Cabinet meeting held on Friday discussed the subject of the defence of the Colony. Captain Thomas asked for additional men, which were granted. Captains Payne, Painter, and Mandeville have been selected for active service. Captain Disney stated that nil the forces m the Colony could be ready at the shortest notice m the event of a proclamation of war. Mr Service haa received a telegram stating that the feeling 1 of war being imminent is increasing m England. The fullest arrangements hare been made for acquaintiug the Colonies of a proclamation of war, which would be at once communicated to every town m the Cjlony.
