John Love to Elizubeth Stewart bmh of Wangauui. Wellington papers ple;.ae, copy.'' The first intimation chat either of the. parties most intimately coucernud m the matter had of tin's, was the. Jlerald annouuceißOut, and naturally both felt exceedingly: wroth at the " joke," ,if such it can ba called. Fortunately a special Act was parsed last session, called ''The False Notice of Birth, Marriage and Death Act, ,1884," which, provides, m clause 2, that " any person who'shall.seudor cause to : be , delivered to the proprietor, printer.'.or publisher of any newspaper, for the purpose of publication thereiu, an untrue notice. ;■ . ot the marriage,, of any person, shall be liable to v penalty cot exceeding thirty potiuds, or iv the dicretibn of the ; Justices > before whom thu case is heard, to imprisonment for oue calendar month." The person who handed: it to our office being well known, his name has been handed to Mr Love, who will instruct a solisitor m the matter.: We- trust will be followed out, ttnd the perpetrator of such a Bcamlalous joke receive; the puuiahment he deserves. We have to apologise to both parties named for the annoyance caused by our publishing the announcement, and trust that our explaiiatiou that it was done m perfect good faith will be received. ;
