DEFENCE OPERATIONS AT WELLINGTON.
HEAVY GUN DRILL.
The Governor c^sionally rides down to the Constabulary Drill-«l.ed 46 Mount £frpk %: »n»| inspects the men at heavy gun drill. Officers as well as men are drilled. Major Goring, Captains Coleman ana! Gudgeon, take stheir places with?-. the. rank and file. Fifty-five out of the eighty-five m the hirracks are constantly employed m moving the heavy guns> Th» others are engaged m other auxiliary operations. This drill is very severe. The drills occupy seyen and a-half hours of each day. The first drill practice commence* at half past six m the morning and ends at eight o'clock ; the second commences at nine o'cl«>ck and continues till half-past twelve o'clock ; the third commences at two o'clock m the. afternoon, and lasts till four o'clock ; the fourth is from live o'clock until six o'clock m the ovening. .There are four drill instructors engaged.
