Manawatu Standard (PUBLISHED DAILY.) The Oldest Daily Newspaper on the West Coast. MONDAY, APRIL 20, 1885. THE DAIRY FACTORY.

The Dairy Factory has been purchased for £400, a di-posit on which was paid to-day. The buyers are Messrs David Buick, Geo. Davison, aud J. Liggins, the hist named being the late manager. Messrs BuicK and Davison can supply themselves with 120 gallons of milk a day, independent from outside sources of supply, and under Mr Liggiss' capable and experienced management the pro jecl. should realize all previous anticipations as to its ultimate success. We learn that it is to be forthwith converted into a combined cheese and butter factory. Pig fattening for export will also be a prominent feature m the enterprise, and the proprietors may possibly go m for bacon curing subsequently. Already a considerable portion of the plant for cheese making has been purchased, and we hope to be able to chronicle from time to time the satisfactory prosecution of the undertaking, with profit to the proprietors and advantage to the district at large. We regret th*t the Company which was launched under micb. favourable auspices was doomed to ad early dissolution ; but we*are glad, for the sake of the district, that the establishment is still to be retained m local hands, and that its prospects of snecess have a reasonable prospect of being eventually realized. We regard the industry as a most important one, and trust its career m future will be one of continuous and uninterrupted prosperity.
