"It appears from a statement which has! been going the round of the press (that the gentleman deaf and dumb beggar on London Bridge, who lately died m the South wark Workhouse, was a * Swiss gentleman and a Freemason, In an unguarded moment he revealed some of the mysteries of his Craft to a Delilah. Stung by remorse, he vowed thafc. he would not open his lips for ten years, and that he would go bare-headed and bare-footed through the world, and forego for twenty years all the advantages which fortune had bestowed upon him.' At the time of his death lie had held strictly to his vow for over 13 years."
