Persistent rumours have heen current lately m political circles, that a peaceful settlement of the Russo-Afghan difficulty has been effected, bufc up to the present time nothing of a tangible nature has transpired m regard to the matter m question. In the House of Commons to-day, Mr Gladstone took occasion to deny the statement which had been circulated to the effect that Penjdeh had been ceded to Russia.
