The two batswings purchased from the Foxton Boating Club are to arrive by this evening's train. We would strongly advise members who are not good oarsmen to be careful how they use these boats.. They are chiefly used for racing £ur-' poses and if not carefully managed will easily upsefc. We learn that Mr Hawkius, of the Ben Nevis Hotel, Turakina, is now minehost of the Eiidyinion Hotel, Awahuri. Let us hope he will change the uame of the hostelry without delay. Messrs Stevens & Gorton announce, their next stock sale at Bulls, to take placo on Tuesday,2lst inst. The catalogue ie elsewhere announced. Sale at 1 o'clock. Intending purchasers of land at Messrs Bockett Hammond and Dick's great land sale to take place on Saturday 25th instant, can obtain lithographed plans at this office. As the sections both town and rural are well laid off, the reserves moderate, and the terms exceedingly H-. beral, there is every reason to expect a highly satisfactory sale. The plans which have bean sent us for distribution are well got up, and show clearly the respective positions of the various sections to be offered. At the Court to-day Mr Hanl<infl,when quoting from a copy of the Act applying to the case being heard, was informed by the witness that the said Act was " all nonsense." Messrs Welch and Co. (stationers) have taken the premises lately occupied by Mr Johnston, (tailor) ami will shortly open up very large consignments of goods m every branch of the trade. They will have a grand display of goods expemd for vale m about three weeks time. A sitting of the Native Lands Court will open at Palmerston to-morrow, when the Manawatu Block will be dealt with. Mr Freeth, the deputy of the G-overnment, is here, and will pay those Natives who are willing to sell. It is rumoured that the Government doubled their former offer, and are now prepared to go as high as 10s per acre. This sitting will not be a special Palmerslon sitting, but is an adjournment of the Masterton Court. The District Court sits at Palmerston on the 22nd inst. The Turakina races will be held tomorrow and with line weather should prove 'an attractive meeting;.
