The Borough Loan.
There was not a great deal of excitement prevailing on Saturday evening either before or after the declaration of the poll for the Borougn Loan. The ratepayers evidently with a very few exceptions were of one mind about the scheme and therefore they did not make a fuss over the affair but recorded their votes almost to a man in|favor of the Loan. Out of 342 votes polled only 12 were found to be averse to the proposal, 7 were informal, and the balance 323 m favor, or 60 more than was actually required. The canvass committee carried out their arrangements m a thorough business like manner, and deserve the highest praise for the energy and tact displayed by them on Saturday. From early morning until 6 p.m. the various vehicles were kept going m every direction, not one voter being forgotten, and it is no doubt to this united and practical action m this way that the result of the poll is as satisfactory as it is. Voters at a distance were promptly sent for, even as far as seventeen miles away, iv fact every available vote known of was canvassed. The poll was declared by the Mayor at 7 45 p.m. m the Town Hall, only about a score of persons being present, the news of course was received with three hearty oheers. Afterwards a few squibfj were let off outside the Hall, but nothing further took place m the shape of demonstration. The news of the poll soon spread and universal satisfaction and congratulation was expressed by the townsfolk.
