The Jane Douglas will leave Foxton for Wellington on Monday at 6 p.m. Writes a Napier paper : — The Salvation Army does not seem to b 6 an un qualified success here, judging from tho numbers attending the evening processional inarch. The Army had dwindled down to seven rank and file last night, and there seemed to bo more rank than file about it. The celebrated carved honsn atTaheUe, Lake Rewiti, said to be tho finest erection.of the kind m the colony, is about to be repaired by the natives. Tho following tenders were accepted by the Road Board to-day : -Drain on Foxton Road, Barron & Boyle ; Jacknytown Road, H. McCarthy, £54 17s ; Millerick's Lino, C. Rosenthal, £46 ; No. 4 Line, 22 chains, Barron & Boyle, £41 2s. At thfl meeting of the Manawatu Road Board held to-day, the Chairman stated he had received % wire from tho Government stating that the money granted, under the Roads and Bridges Construction Act had been forwarded.. Up to 4 p.m. 275 voteß had been recorded for the Loan at the two polling places. Of these it is believed nearly all were m favour. The number actually required to carry the Loan is 243, viz., half the number of the burgesses.
