Manawatu Standard. (PUBLISHED DAILY.) The Oldest Daily Newspaper on the West Coast. FRIDAY, APRIL 10, 1885. THE BOROUGH LOAN.

It is scarcely necessary for us to remind our readers that to-morrow the poll for the proposed Borough Loan will be taken. There will be two polling places, viz., the Borough Council office, Town Hall, andDeards' Hall, Terrace End. The hours of polling will be from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. We think the ratepayers are pretty unanimous on the question of the Loan. But let us impress upon them the importance of every vote being recorded. Nat a single one must remain unrecorded. Every unrecorded vote will be counted one agdnst. Let tlw ratepayere bear this fact m mind Absentee votes will all count against, therefore to obtain the required number to sanction the loan, every available vote must be recorded. There are twenty-three names of lady voters on the roll. We trust every one will be recorded m favour of the loan. The working men should make it a point to record their votes before they go to work. We say to all the burgesses : Poll early, and each use your influence to bring somebody else who otherwise might stay away. All admit how essential — yes, indispensable to our progress and welfare as a commhnity and to our future as. an important town are drainage, watersupply, lighting, and street improvements. Without a loan these cannot be achieved. According as the poll goes to-morrow, so will the future be affected. It will be either progress or stagnation, prosperity or depression, money aud work plentiful or hard times for all. Which alternative will the ratepayers select? The question will be left m their hands tomorrow to decide. The issue .is all important as nttecting this, town and district;. We commend the mattev to the thoughtful consideration of every person whose name appears on the municipal roll. We need say no more.
