The usual monthly meeting of the Paluaerston *N<>rth School Committee was held last night at the schoolhouse. Presenter- Messrs G.- F. Hawkins, (chairf, Walton, and Wright (secretary). A letter from Mr Leary to the^ Board was read and also; correspondence m reply was read and received. Letter from Board read stating that the applications for position of assistant teacher at the Central School would be attended to as soon as the quarterly returns were forwarded. Letter from Board stating that this committee could send m name of Miss Scofield as a desirable and efficient person tQ fiU the position, without the Boardyforwarding a list of names for consideration. . . - Letterhead from Miss Scofield applying foe. the post of assistant teacher m the Central School. Eesolved— That this committee is favorable to Miss Scofield's application pending instructions from the Board as to whether further addition to the teaching staff is required. Eesolved— To request the Board to make necessary alterations m partition m Miss Patterson's room also if Board declined, to have the work done forthwith. ■-■'■■■■ Letter froni Montague offering'to supply firewood to the school. Eesolved to call tenders for same. The head master's report and that of the Terrace" End school as appended were read and received. CENTRAL SCHOOL. I have the honor to submit my monthly report. Average roll 852-2, average attendance 270-04, Highest number present 290, number of half days open 42, scholars admitted 7, left 10, roll number now attending 348. As the cold season is now approaching, it will be necessary to provide wood for. the fires. The average of attendance for last quarter* being 275*92 will warrant the application for additional teaching power. — Francis E. Watson. . TERRACE END SCHOOL. The report for quarter ending March Slsfc is as follows :— -Number admitted during quarter, 9 boys, 12 girls, total 21, number withdrawn, 5 boys, 10 girls, total 15, number now.belonging to school 59 boys, 65 girls, total 124, average weekly number, 59-1 boys, 66 girls.-total 125*1; average: attendance,. 46-72 boys, 47*86 girls, total 95*58. I have received the ink-wells asked for. I would also draw your attention .to the black-board, easel and ball-frame mentioned by Inspector as necessary. — M. A. Harvey. The committee expressed themselves highly satisfied with the Truant Inspector's work since his appointment there being an average larger attendance of 66. ■..,.....•■ A letter was read from the Board referring to the teaching -staff at the Terrace End. school..: The communication was receiyed but the matter was not discussed as the committee considered they had nothing definite before them.
