Manchester Road Board.
An ordinary meeting of this board waa held on Saturday afternoon. Present— "Wardens —Bailey (m the chair), Unton and Jones. The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed. ' Correspondence — From Stephen Pankhurst,re felling bush on road line. From O. Wishnousky, re alteration of name on ratebook. From Whibley Bros., re cutting sleep* ers on Pohangina road. From Public Works Department, r* balance ot money on imprest account. From M. Nonaghan, asking for some* thins: lo be done on the road leading to his property m the Scandinavian Block, and requesting permission to fell bush i on road line. Proposed by Warden Lin ton, seconded by Warden Jones, " That Whibley.Bros.' application to cut down sleepers on roadline be not accepted." —Carried. Mr Monaghan's letters, re bush-felling were held orer till next meeting. Resolved, "That Mr Pankhurst b« paid for one acre of road-line felled by. him on Musgrave-street."*!...: -i Mr Bray was authorised to expend on inetalhng bad places on Stoney Creek road. Warden Lin ton brought before the notice of the board a case of distress near Halcombe. Mrs Harse, whose husband was m the hospital, had six children to support, and was quite destitute. There was no benevolent society m Halcombe, and he thought it was a case for the board to relieve. It was proposed by Warden Linton, and seconded by Warden Bailey, " That Mrs Harse be paid 10s per week for one month, until next meeting." —Carried. Accounts were passed to the amount of £3,099 15s lOd, and the board adiourned.
