A, and I*. Society. : (TO' THE EDITOR OF THE STANDARD.) Sib,— -It was proposed some months ago to. establish a society, under the above title for the purpose of hold* ing annual shows m /order to enable the settlers south of Wanganui to exhibit tlieir otook with little expense or trouble. The proposition was •warmly receiv ed , a provisional committee, appointed to canvass the districts along the coast for support had no difficulty m obtaining the required number of names to establish the society, and at a committee meeting held subsequently at Palmerston, Mr Snelson kindly accepted the post of chairmau pro tern, and having discovered that a certain block of land m the township had originally been reserved for the purpose, offered to see to the matter immediately, and hoped m about a fortnight to have everything prepared, so that a second meeting might be called m order to take active steps for holding the first show at I'almerston this year. Months hove elapsed since then and still we at this end of the district, who, have pledged ourselves to support the society, are entirely m the dark as to the progress that is. being made, and shall be pleased to hear of another meeting being' held shortly^as so important a matter as this ought not to be! aliowed to falJ through for the sake on a little ' energy m giving it a start.-- 1 am &c, ; A Foxton Settler.
