Cook .Gaol has been frus- | trate&^l* .appeals that for a few days as| convict named Crabtree, serving a sentence of 14 .years- for offences committed at Christehuroh; ' had been shamming sick and was. allowed to remain; m his hammock. However, the gaoler became suspicious of'Crahtree and had him removed' to a separate,. cell, and an examination of his hammock having been. made 1 %he ; ' blankets : we*e : "■ found to be sewn together 1 , and a chisel, giinblet, and a twp'^lacled- knife*, found secreted away.
