Special Settlements.
We learn from a reliable source that; the Manawatu-WaHapu Special Settlement Association have selected a bloc^i ..of laud extendinii for about, ihalf a mfle deep on both sides of thp Oroua river, that is a, narrow strip of country, -taking the river-frontage off theback^couhtry'oh both sides, ;for » disjanjee; of jabout liwen'tyj miles. We should 1 not imagine this sejection will be officially ratified. It :'^hows 'hbw' j careful- the Governinent 1 must beagainst indiscriminate grants to tol the Special Settlement Associations. Nb Minister ;or, Governmeut , could sanction such a selection as this, which would be a manifeet -.injustice to an immense arjea of country fo/ the sole benefit pf,the privileged members. ;> ;
