A fortnight ago a young ijpan named ThoiHas Ferreter received a rnonthjs imprisonment for stowing away ii the Hotomahana from Port Chalmers <o the Bluff. On Saturday he assaulted one of the gaol warders, and was charged with the offence m Court. The Bench sentenced him to six months' imprisonment. Before the sentence was imposed the prisoner, who was very defiant, swore at the. magistrates, . and afte wards addressed the ihoet filthy language to them.
