Presentation to the Rev. Father Kirk.

A very interesting. '-ceremony took.; .place: last night, m. St. Mayy's schoolr, roona., Wanganui, the .occasion .b6ing the presentation to. Fatner &irk by the' Catholics of' Wanganui of ah address and a p^urse of sovereigns m recognition, of his long, and valuable labours. }n the' service of the church. The purse contained exactly' one hundred., .sovereigns. The presbytery has , cost, upwards of so that altogether *c" have spent some .£OOOO sincg my ; advent. Of this money at least £V6OO for' the church came by direct contribution front the people. By presents, art union, concerts, and pew rents ' we realised .£7BO for the church, £100 for the presbytery, £'200 for the convent, and the people contributed up to this for the convent £.SXO. Lastly, out of my own private funds- 1 have given some. £67o, be-, sides providing ground, fora school and^ church' elsewhere, and something yearly to help the school. The • RevJ Father Kirk alluded to the sisters of St. Joseph, whose lives and efforts m the cause ' of education he alluded to as being so ed>' fying. and successful. ,' \
