Manawatu County Council .
The Council met at 2 p.m. on Thursday. Present — Ors Thynne (Chairman), Gibson, M'Lennan, Sanson, Stewart, Davies, and ftTKenzie. The Chairman stated that the result of adjustment of accounts between the Manawatu and Horowhenua Counties was that the Manawatu County should receive all monies due on 31st -December 1884, and pay all liabilities contracted on or before that date, the offices to be the property of the Manawatu County; the "reserves m each County to belong thereto. The plant of the Manawatu Ferries to belong to the Manawatu County ; the plant m use by Eoad parties to remain m the County where they were m use on 3rd inst. # The following correspondence was read: — From A. H. Wylds, asking the Coun- [ oil to reduce the cost of carriage of timber on the tramway, so as to equal the cost j of carriage from Palmerston to Foxton. From Treasury allocating grants under Roads and Bridges Construction Act as follows : — Sanclon and Carnarvon Tramway, £1350; Foxton - Moutoa Road, £75 ; Sanson-Halcojnbe Eoad, £15. From Under - Secretary of Justice pointing out that the Government had not asked the Council to pay salaries to Clerks of Licensing : Bench but that Council hod power to pay actual cost of travelling expenses to the plerk. From R. Bydder stating that he could not meet morning train with his coach but would do so m three months. The special Committee appointed to purchase a gravel-pit near Sandon re* ported that they had purchased two acres of land from Mr Win. Scarrow for £40. The report of the County Engineer was read. Resolved— That the Chairman be paid I at the rate of £100 pei aunum to include i travelling expenses except m travelling | to Wellington on Wanganui. I Resolved that the travelling expenses i of Councillors be Is per mile one way. j Resolved — That a committee be ap- [ pointed consisting of the Chairman, Cr Stewart, and the mover to. endeavor to make more satisfactory arrangements with the Manawatu Road Board respecting repairs to the Awahuri bridge. The following fenders were received for the extension of Sandon Tramway : — Reid and Peterson, No. 4, £510 No. 5, £125 f Aitken and Jackman, lump sum, No. 4, £286 ; J. Kerby, No. 5, £89; (accepted), Pemberton, No. 4, £254 ; accepted, No. 5, £87. Sleepers— Rowe & Son, 1000 matai, 2s each, (accepted) ; Warne and Beard, 1000 totara, 2s Yd each ; R. Gray, 2s 6d each, delivered ; Bailey Bros., totara 3s 3d, matai, 2a 3d. Awahuri Road— J. Mudford, 20s per chain, accepted. Foxton and Wirokino ferries— T.Bowe £210, accepted. J. Hillary, £131.
