(UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Inverca.kgill, March 5. Mr Murdoch's Woodend Sawmill was burnt down this morning. The fire is supposed to have originated m a smithy. The owner had an insurance of .£6OO m the Victorian on the mill, but it is uncertain if it is still m force. Mr Murdoch is the oldest and most extensive sawmiller m the district, and much sympathy is felt for him, as recently he had another mill destroyed. A local industry of sheep dip manuI facture, is progressing. Hatch and Co. have secured orders from several large flock owners, and have just completed orders for 2555 and 800 gallons for the New Zealand Land Company and Agricultural Company. The latter company will dip a quarter of a million sheep. The dip will be used on all the company's estates. Christchurcb;. March 4. The funeral of the late Mr 3EL Oram, proprietor of the Royal Hotel, who died suddenly at Dunedin on Saturday, took place tins afternoon. The hearse was preceded by a large number of the Masonic Order, and was followed by a train of fifty carriages. John Horrigan, of Oaniaru, who had come down to go to Dunedin Hospital, was found dead m bed this morning at the Leviathan Hotel. An inquest will be held to-morrow. Samuel Green, a laborer working on the Femhill railway branch line, died suddenly last night, it is supposed from heart disease. The deceased, who was 57 years of age, left Green Island last evening with the intention of returning to his tent, and he was found dead on the railway line at 6 o'clock this morning. TiMA'<u, March 4. Patrick Ryan, of fraudulent bankruptcy notoriety, was to-day committed for | trail on thi*ee charges of burglary from a dwelling. All three offences were committed at the same house, the first two on 15th March, 1884, and the last on 30th January, 1885, and the victims of all three wore persons who had extended a hand to him when he came over from Melbourne m custody nearly two years ago. They had been his bailsmen on that occasion, and on his subsequent release from gaol they allowed him to visit their houses, and were kind to him. In their absence at work he had forcibly entered the house, and taken a quantity of then* jewellery, money, clothing, &c. Auckland, March 4. There was a fire this afternoon at Ready's fish curing establishment. The building was gutted. The stock was uninsured. The owner of the building (Mr lnglis) had it insured for £300 m the Colonial Insurance Company. At the inquest on Robert Clark, killed by the tram-car, a verdict of accidental death was returned. No Maine was attributed to the driver. [ It is* stated that Mr R. C. Reid, for- ! merly proprietor of the West Coast I Times, and at one time a member of the j House for Westknd, has joined the staff [ of the Anglo -Neioiealander, and after making a canvas of the colony will proceed to London. The success of the paper is | said to be assured, and. it will shortly be published weekly. Gisborne, March 4. I The Harbor Board has decided to take a poll of the ratepayers on the harbor loan question at once. Dunedin, March 4 "William Reid, an old resident of Waikouaiti, did of heart disease ,last night. The City Licensing Committee declined to entertain till next annual meeting any applications for extended hours. At the Dunedin Licensing Meeting a number of publicans m the north end of the city, where 10 o'clock licenses are the rule, applied for an extension to 12 [ o'clock, which is the hour m the south end of the city. The bench said they had determined to make no change till the annual meeting m June. The ship Turakina, which sails on Saturday morning, will take between 11,000 and 12,000 frozen sheep.
