I From the Marton paper we take the following: —A short time ago the contract for painting the whole of the rail, way buildings on the Foxton-New Plymouth railway was let to a Wanganui master painter without any tenders having been invited. The other muster painters immediately ' communicated with the Minister of Public Works, urging that tenders should have been advertised for. They received a reply to the effect that it was irregular, and would be inquired into. Meanwhile, the gentleman who liad accepted the contract had put a large number of men to work to paint the various buildings. This morning a bulletin came to hand, from the Public Works Department, giving orders that the painting must be stoppod at once. It is quite evident that there has been a blunder somewhere, and we persume that the whole matter will be properly investigated.
