Drainage of the Kairanga.
j .•••■■■■ '■•'■'. ■"♦ " r ■' "■ '• •'■ ' ' /: ' ; i The Cljairnjan of the Road Board, ac- ! couipanied by Mr Sly and the engineflr, Mr Armstrong, went down to-day by noon train, along with Messrs T. F. Rotheratn, J. T. Stewart, and G. Ny'6, to ascertain if a pracjioablo outlet can he found for the surplus drainage of the Enirnnga Block. It is surmised that by cutting a drain m the locality of what is known as the " Half-Crown," with a fall into the the Oroua, the Kairanga
and Bunnythorpe would be relieved to a great extent of the accumulation of water, which, during the wet season pivvails m those districts. The Railway Department will probably be asked to assist m cutting the drain outside the •limits of the Road Boards District. A careful examination of the locality will be made by the gentlemen named above, and is to be sincerely hooed with congratulatory results, as tho settlers iv many parts of Kairauga and Bunny- ; thorpe fiave often had reason to complain of the watery visitations which liavo periodically taken place, and which . have proved such a source of loss and inconvenience to them from time time. The question of how to get rid of this water has been frequently discussed, but hitherto uo practicable means of dealing with it has been submitted. Getting rid of the surface drainage by any means will bo a great boon to many a struggling settler m the districts named.
