ACCEPTANCES FOR THE ■* HAWKE'S BAY RACES.
[Napier .Teleffjaph.] ( Therein, no concealing the. fact that the acceptancesforour March meeting are ; disappointing m the extreme, and to but one cause can .that be attributed— bad handicapping. The moment tho weights appeared,. sporting writers m all quarters' saw that,, perhaps, the best three-year o|4in Zealand, was literally thrown i%in ;iacV,fit and well, on public form there was but. one m the race, and that filly owned by a man who always runs straight. Last year when we gave only 500. soys. we got 22 acceptances against 12 this year, and yet only got a field of 6,; because then as now one horse alone was: m 'the race on public form, Sou'wester; and he won the Handicap as he Hkied.'.' Last yeai. the Railway^ Stakes had art acceptance of 21 as against 14 this year. The Hurdleß only had 7 acceptors, this year 6. After the club has considerably increased the stakes, it is a pity that, all their liberality should be thrown away through the mistakes of a handicapper.
