An Awkward Fix and the Way out of it.

No better story of life m an English ; country house has. been told than this, from the London Sporting Times: — A most eligible young lady arrived on a visit. She noticed^on the way to her bedroom a bath-room that seemed very convienent. After the family had retired to rest and there being no chance of her' being disturbed, she determined to avail herself of the luxury of ,tbe ; bath. : On entering the room, she read on the door a notice not to latch it,- las- the door was temporily out of repair, and could not be opened from the inside. As there was not likely to be anybody about, this was not a great drawback, and she entered the room. Scarcely had she done so than a gentleman, who was also a guest, thought to availhimself of tho same opportunity of the bath, but, unlike the ladyj he did not enter the room cautiously,' but, on the other hand, manlike, came m with a., bounce, banging the door behind him. He immediately caught a glance of the lady, and tried $o bolt, but it was of.no use. The door could not. be opened* He tried to explain matters, and begged to know what he could do. The lady almost hysterically replied, to his very great amazement, " If you are a gentleman, sir, you will turn your back to me while I lather myself." This he did. and making good use of the opportunity, she applied the soap so well as to completely colour the water, after which he could see even less of her than he had at dinnertime. She then caused an alarm to, be sounded, and was soon released from her awkward position.
