THE ENEMY IN GREAT FORCE
BATTLE NEAR EL METEMNEH TIMES AND STANDARD CON DEM THE GOVERNMENT. (eleotmc telegraph. — cdpybigut] (ri.uteu's ti lkgkams.) London, Feb. 23. There is an enormous gathering oi the rebels, under Osinan Digna, ai Tainai. Messrs Pritchard and Morgan, oi Queensland, have promised A'soo towards the patriotic fund, and will give a similar amount annually. It is believed that the acceptance oi the Sydney offer for the Soudan will promote federation of the colonies. An engagement has taken, place m the neighborhood of El Metemneh between the friendly Arabs and the tribe of rebel Hadendowas, when 2000 of the latter were killed. In an article to-day on the refusal oi the Imperial Government to accept additional colonial troops, the Times states that that the reply is ungrateful, and it farther expresses an opinion that the aid of the colonial troops will be needed. The Standard says, the refusal is a distinct blunder, and characterises the reasons given for not accepting the troops as weak. ••■;. r
