THE WAR EXCITEMENT IN NEW SOUTH WALES.
(UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.) . >; "■::: Cheistchdrch, Feb. 19. ; The Premier of New South Wales, i who is still m Christchurch, received ; yesterday the following telegram, dated ■I7th February, from the Colonial Treasurer of that colony : -■" Enthusiasm and excitement at its highest pitch. MaBS meeting at Exhibition Building to-mor-row night. Chief Justice Sir J. Martin is to move a resolution' endorsing the prompt- and patriotic action of thp Government. Messrs Halliday, Fairfax, Bennett, D. Cooper, T. Walker, and B. Levey give LIOOO a year each during the war. Others' in numbers give less amounts with large gifts m kind. We will despatch one battery of artillery and 500 infantry. Doctors, nurses, old soldiers, and officers are offering by hundreds." Mr Stuart himself has telegram's from . members of all branches of the forces applying eagerly to be sent. The Governor, of New South Wales, Lord A. Loftus, has telegraphed to Mr Stuart :— " The offer of aid being gratefully accepted by her Majesty's Government.has caused great enthusiasm, is generally, approved, and will be productive of incalculable good, both now and and hereafter."
