Waste Lands Board.

Present : Messrs Mar chant (Commissioner), Beetham, M.H.R., Bonny, M'Cardle, Fitzherbert, Mason. v ' >v '^ f * The Under- Secretary for Crown Lands wrote stating that it was not coi& sidered advisable to advertise for applications for the appointment of Crown Lands : Ranger, and the matter was, allowed to stand over. ' L '' *" x> The Under-Secretary for Crown Lands also wrote intimating that the Board would' be informed when the Minister of Lands could receive a deputation regard^ ing special settlements. ' A letter merely acknowledging receipt of a communication from the Board m reference to-^the necessity of increasing the survey staff, was received from the Land Department. L " It was agreed to postpone the question' of offering for lease and deferred payment the unsold sections m Mangahao and Mangaone Blocks. In regard to the question pf * expend^ ture on road works m certain districts, it was resolved, on the motion pt Mr Beetham, seconded by Mr^ M'Qartfie, to expend the following sums ':— Tbkolnaru, i? 33 6; Karewarewa, £606; Pareterke, .£800; Otamakapuna and Waitapu, £2769; Marton-Murunptu-roa~d t r £70Pj, &c. ; tenders to be invited for* certain ofthese works. The Ghief Surveyor's reports ; with reference to laying off certain lands m the. Wairarapa district were adopted. A memo, was submitted t6 the 'Board from the Uniier-Secretary ior Crown Lands to the eftect that the MastertonPuketoi Special Settlement had selected 5000 acres east of Tiraumea river, and : requesting the Board to appoint a committee to value the. land. Mr Bunny moved, and Mr M'Cardle seconded,' that -the valuation be made when the lines are cut ; also, that the Government be asked for the names of the settlers belonging to the Association to whom this land, and the Mangahao Block -cf. 10,000 acres, have been allotted. Agreed to. A memo, was received from the Crown Lands Department stating that the Palmerston- Waitapu Association had selected 10,000 acres m the Waitapu Block, and asking the Board to appoint a committee to value Mr Bunny moved that the names of the members of this association be furnished to the Land Board.. -*. Beetham seconded the motion, which was carried. On the motion of Mr Bunny, a com* mittee was appointed, consisting of the Commissioner of Crown Lands, Mr Fitzherbert, and himself, to value the Waitapu Block. The Committee! to report at its earliest convenience^ ~ Mr Beetham moved, and Mr Fitzherbert seconded, that the Government be requested.
