OROUA DOWNS STOCK SALE.

The annual sale of stock from the Oroua Downs and Carnarvon estates was held by us on the 13th instant: Af-' ter partaking of a liberal lunch laid out m the wob.l-shed (which was decorate! for the occasion) and to which riear'loo could be sealed at a lime, we had the 1 pleasure of offering 330 odd head of cattie and 4500 sheep, and about 20 horses to the public ; there was a huge attendance, but owing to the butchers being what they are pleased to call " full up," there was no demand for the grand bullocks aud fat vjrethers offered them, but for the other stock, more particularly the store sheep, there was spirited bidding, the store owes being exceptionally good. But, spirited as the bidding was for the sheep, it became far more so when the young druught stock came under the hammer, lot after lot causing very justly keen competition. The gems wore a pair of fillies which fell to the bid of Mr A. Lumsden for sixty guineas. The following were the rates realised : —Fat cows, £4 10s to £5 ; mixed yearlings, chiefly heifers, 25a 6d; mixed two-yenr-olds, nearly all heifers, 35s ; store cowb, £2 ; pure-bred bull Baronet, 24gs. ; pure-bred Ayrshiro bull, sgs. ; fat ewes, very prime, 10s 5d ; two-tooth ewes, 7s 6d ; strong big framed ewes, 8s 9«lto 8s 10d ; Mr Larkworthy's purebred Lincoln rams, lg. to l£gs.; pure Romney rams averaged lg. The purebred Shropshire rams came before the public m this district for the first time, and, though they received a good deal of attention, the bidding did not come forth m as spirited a manner as was expected, only six out of the sixteen being sold at prices from 3gs. to 4gs. Draught colts and fillies brought 16gs. to 35gs. each, and hacks £4 10s to £6 7s 6d.
