At AVainiato last Monday a man got three months' imprisonment, with hard labor, for using bad language, Tn Christchurch on Thursday a m:\n was sentenced to ibrty-eight hours' imprisonment for a similar olfence. In tho former case the man was drunk ; m the latter he was sober. - The Wai mate 'maii used bad language m the presence of a female, who proceeded to throw hot water ai him with a dipper ; the other culprit offended the ears of some women and children iv the public street^ ' This is one more point of (iifforence. Tho drunkard alleged at hid trial thar." he hi»d received some provooitioi^. The offence of the sober man appears to have been quite 'wantonly- committed. The OhVistchuroh case- was heard Mr MellUh, R.M., and a Justice ; TliO-'Wa-iniate man was dealt with by the 'Mayor and twoJiutices, who told him he might cbngratuluto himself thai it was his first offence, and he had therefore escaped getting the maximum penalty ot* twelve months'!
