Terrible Hurricane m Austria.
Vienna and several other districts of Austria have been visited by a terrible hurricane, which exceeds ' m. violence aUrecorded-mbtcorogical outbursts, with, perhaps, one exception. Hoofs were 1 blown off m ail directions, and m some cases the walls of the houses fell m. Tiles, chimneys, and window panes flew about m every direction. Omnibuses, vans, and railway carriages were blown over. At certain corners the wind was so high, that all who attempted to pass were thrown to the ground. "Several men" were dashed against the walls and lamp-posts, and had jegsjand arms broken. ; Two .streets m the city wer.e entirely closed to traffic, many of: the roofs of the houses, which were m an unsound condition, having been blown away. A'bjbut a^h'-u^drcd. Christmas stalls were 'torn to pieces, and the owners m trying to rescue their wares, risked life arid linib. ' In several Streets the wind broke the plate-glass windows of the shops, scattering the goods m every . direction. ; Heavy planks, parts of roofs, and lamps were carried almost a hundred yards distance, some crashing throiigh the windows of the neighbouring houses. High garden walls were blown down, and about fifty houses are without roofs. Four carriages of a railway train m motion were actually blown off the line of rails, and fell upon each other. The guard and one of the passengers were killed and several other passengers were badly injured.
