The Accident to Mrs L. G. West.
We have ascertained the following farther particulars :— Mr and Mrs West left Mr Stace's about two o'clock the day before yesterday for Woodville, while going through the Gorge, the horse Mrs West was riding was nervous and shied considerably. Just before nearing the waterfall Mrs West passed her husband at a smart hand gallop, and in the turns of the road was lost to view. Mr West next heard the sound of a heavy thud, and pushing quickly ahead saw his wife lying stretched on the hard rocky bank apparently lifeless. The horrible sight almost unnerved him, but jumping from his horse he, with the assistance of another person, who just then came up, succeeded in bringing Mrs West to consciousness and had her conveyed to Woodville in the trap of the party who so opportunely arrived. Mrs West was brought back to Palmerston last evening in a conveyance in which was placed a spring mattrass and necessary pillows for her comfort. She is still suffering from the effects of her accident, and it will be some days before she is thoroughly recovered. Mr West informs us that his wife fainted before being thrown, else she would not have been so easily put off.
