War Correspondents.

Nowadays, the " specials" of tlie pictorial press arc found everywhere. Mr Melton Prior, one of the most famous of this courageous band, gave some of his experiences m these columns a short time ago and we "Pall Mall Giwtte" conclude our notice with the following story told by another artist '• special" of his difficulties m the Franco-German war :— Of the trouble I have taken to get these sketches you can have no conception. The plan I have been obliged to adopt is this ; .1 walk about quietly, apparently noticing all the goods m the shop windows. When I see anything, I make memoranda on small bits of tissue paper, perhaps m a cafe, or while appearing to look at the water at the top of a bridge, or on the side of ah apple, with a big- knife m; my hand ; pretendfrig to peel it. These little mems I' roll up into pills, place them handy m my waistcoat pocket to be chewed up 6r swallowed if m extremis. When I get home at night; I uriroll these little pills, and from these mems make " a complete cutljne on a thin' piece of white paper: then pasting' these sketches face t6 face it looks like a plain piece of paper ; but hbld.it vsto the light and the 5 sketch ! sli6Ws; 'So I make memoranda all' 6ve> it — the times' of trains starting, price of articles, or exti acts from newspapers. When I ge^ to aplkce of. safety, I soak these! pieces of paper m water, pull : the ' Sketches apart, and from them have made the sketches I have forwarded to ydu.
